George Herron Cassens Obituary
Dad, Grandpa, Husband, Son Born February 9, 1926, to Ethel and George Cassens. Went home to his Savior on May 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his family who loved him so much. George graduated from Cedarburg High School and then served in the US Marine Corps. He married Ethel "Josie" Zimdars. They had three children: Renee Cassens, Cheryl (Tom) Boesch and Kip (Terri) Cassens. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much, and the time spent with his loving family.
He studied to be a journeyman electrician. He had many talents and aspirations and he shared some of those with his wife Josie. They included carpentry, gardening, cook and hunting. He also loved trap shooting and bowling and excelled at them all. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He was meticulous in everything he did. Quality was his aim. George was honest, straight-forward, generous, self-reliant, had an amazing work ethic, good sense of humor and looked forward to each day. He loved dogs and birds. Some of his simple pleasures included rhubarb pie, cheese and crackers, sausage, beer, martinis and wine. He was also an avid reader, especially about health information and history, and enjoyed sharing the information with his family. Everyone called him Doctor George. He has a passion for learning.
His first wife Josie went to be with Jesus in 2006. He later married Jewel Schauble for 14 years. She took incredibly good care of him the last years with health issues. They helped each other in their last few years after their spouses passed and really enjoyed each other's company.
George was a teacher and mentor at a very young age. One could learn a lot from him. He gave his life to Jesus in his midlife. We are proud and blesse to have known him. He has peace and rest from his labors. We look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 15 from 12PM until time of Funeral Service at 1PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church; 701 Washington St., Grafton. George will be laid to rest at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church are greatly appreciated.
