He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Schmitt and Iva Schmitt (Bernier); his grandson Jonas; his siblings, Connie Forester (Jerome), Rosemary Francis (Joe) and Richard Schmitt (Mary); and his in-laws, Jack Bader (Mildred), Shea Bader (Edna), Edward Bader (LaDoris), Mary Ruth Geohegan (Joe), Martin Bader (Doris) and Thomas Bader (Bev).
He is survived by: his children, Ruth Blevons (Terry), Edward Schriner-Schmitt (Barbara), Barbara Schmitt, Connie Mutchmore (Jeff), Mary Schmitt and Amy Distad (Gary); and his grandchildren, Tom, Aaron, Frank (Chelsea), Will (Kelly), Ben (Desiree), Mandy, Katie (Will), Joe, Sophia (Will), Olivia (Simon), Natasha and Jack. He is also survived by great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established in Bernard's name.
