He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edmund and Inez Elaine Hallfrisch; and his son-in-law Eric Myers. He is survived by: his wife Clarice Hallfrisch (Gunville); his children, Angela Myers, John J. Hallfrisch (Diana), Valerie DeCamp (Shane), Aaron Hallfrisch (Andrea), Sean Hallfrisch (Colleen) and Luke Hallfrisch; his siblings, Sheila Shanks (Michael), Jeffrey Hallfrisch (Lynda) and Janet Svar (Jonathan); his grandchildren, Clara, Isaac, Zoey, John Zayne, Zander, Zavier, Zayda, Breanna, Katelyn, Athena, Reigna, Drew, Henry and Helen; and his great grandchildren, Eliza, Zaria and Lucien.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the National Park Foundation or NPR, or the gift of a living plant. Alternatively, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, honoring John's lifelong spirit of service and curiosity.
