He was predeceased by: his parents, Waino Makela and Sylvia Makela (Kilponen); and his sister Susie Fitzgerald (Mike). He is survived by: his wife Lori Jacobson; his children, Matthew Makela, Wayne Makela and Meggie Janssen (Tim); his grandchildren, Reagan, Noelle, Brooke, Aaron, Luke, Noah, Austin, Josh and Halle; his father-in-law Lloyd Jacobson; his siblings, Ann Kangas (Bill), Chrissy Saari (Roger) and Dave Makela (Sharon); and his sister-in-law Sheri Trotochaud (Jerry). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy a Memorial Fund has been established in his name.
