With sadness, we share the passing of John Gary Backes of Hartford, Wisconsin. John Gary, born on July 21, 1944, passed away on October 1, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Backes and Lucille Backes; and his siblings, Chuck and Judy Wick (Bob). He is survived by: his wife Cynthia; his children, Gary (Susan) and Elizabeth (Jonathon); his brother James (Annette); his grandchildren, Michael and Colleen (Mitchell); and his great grandchild Carter.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 8th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Hartford Recreation Center (125 N Rural St, Hartford, WI 53027).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House of Wisconsin, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), or the Washington County Youth Hockey Association.
