She was predeceased by: her parents, Anton Petersen and Mary Petersen (Singer); her husband Thomas M. Shanahan; her grandson David Thompson; and her brother-in-law Tom DeWayne (Eileen).

She is survived by: her children, Catherine Thompson (Gary) of Pewaukee, Thomas J. Shanahan (Christine) of Oconomowoc and Karen Bauer (John) of New Berlin; her grandchildren, Joseph Thompson (Ashlee), Megan Shanahan, Nicole Shanahan, Brooke Bauer and Jordan Bauer; her great grandchildren, Eleanore "Ellie", Annabelle and Audrey Thompson; and her sisters, Eileen DeWayne of West Allis and Colleen Petersen of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be given to the WI Council of the Blind and Visually impaired.
