He is survived by: his children, William "Bill" Thiel and Linda O'Leary (Craig); his grandchildren, Matthew Thiel (Kali), Robert O'Leary (Rachel) and Ann O'Leary Gundlach (Matthew); his great grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Thiel; and his grandchildren, Isabelle, Beauden O'Leary, Allie and Kate Gundlach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to The Gathering Place, 730 County Road PPP, Sheboygan Falls, WI 53085 and First United Lutheran Church.
