Dawn Marie (Emmel) Grund Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dawn Grund, age 67 of Hudson, WI, who passed away peacefully Friday May 1, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. She left this world as she lived in it, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on April 4, 1959, to Donald and Bernadine (Zenz) Emmel in St. Paul, MN.
She later moved to a hobby farm in Hudson, WI, where she lived with her beloved horses, many dogs, cats and even a few goats. Dawn had a passion for her animals, flowers, and her vegetable garden which she shared with family, neighbors and friends.

Dawn’s daughter Mikayla was her proudest accomplishment, along with her son-in-law Justin who was the light of her life. Her a granddaughter arrived May 12, who she tried to so desperately, to survive to finally hold.

Dawn worked for Ramsey County Human Service for 35 years and worked for Hudson School District after retiring.

The annual family trips to Big Birch Lake were a tradition that Dawn held dear. These trips, filled with floating, fishing, Yahtzee, much laughter, and a little beer, created treasured memories that will be etched in the hearts of those who shared them with her.

Dawn was very independent, lived on her own terms, she had strength through hard times, yet tenderness and warmth through little things like bringing flowers, surprise goodies, heartfelt gifts.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, brother and her ex-husband Bob Heath.

Dawn will be greatly missed by her daughter Mikayla (Justin) Ruedebusch, granddaughter Quinn Dawn, sisters Kathy Meehan (Jim), Cheri (John), Sandy Dietzmann (Ron), many nieces, nephews, and cousins also friends and neighbors will miss her dearly. She will be especially missed by her loyal dog Elle, cats Tessa and Bunkie.

Memorials preferred as garden decor, perennial flowers/bulbs for her "forever" garden.
