He was predeceased by: his parents, Arlo Peterson and Laura Ellen Peterson (Lillesvangstu); and his brother Roger Peterson. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Madeline R. MortonCaleb R. MortonPadraic, Morton (Hannah McMullenErik D.), PetersonRyan D. PetersonLaura A. Peterson (Connor HundtMatthew O.) and PetersonDoug; his wife Barbara; and his siblings, Jerry Peterson and Judy Rogers. He is also survived by his three children and their spouses; his seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11th 2026 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the O'Connell Funeral Home (520 11th St, Hudson, WI 54016). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 11th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Doug's lifelong love of the outdoors and history to one of the following organizations: Friends of Willow River, Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI, or the Saint Croix Historical Society.
