He was predeceased by : his father Oliver McDowell; and his sister Carolyn Peshek. He is survived by : his wife Karen Printz; his children, Suzanne Romsa (Kerry), Valerie McDowell, David McDowell and Patricia Sjogren (Kristopher); his grandchild MacKenzie; his stepchildren, Dawn Grossbier (Daniel) and David Printz (Kori); his stepgranddaughters, Ava and Emma; and his siblings, Nancy Schmidt, Patricia Meyer and Thomas McDowell (Jean).

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
