He was predeceased by: his parents, Sylvester H. Thiel and Joyce M. Thiel (Giesseman); his father-in-law Kenneth Nelson, Sr.; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Gutzman and David Ames.

He is survived by: his wife Vicky Thiel; his son Todd Seefeldt (Dana); his grandchildren, Ashton, Chase and Ryan; his daughter Danielle Rogula (Brian); his grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Jordan and Missy; his siblings, Deb Gretz (Kim), Candy Luek (Randy), Pam Gutzman and Tammy Vike (Mike); his mother-in-law Lillian J. Nelson; and his siblings-in-law, Vera Wille (Paul), Val Wade, Vanette Meidl (Mike), Vonnie Jacobson, Vivian Ames and Kenneth Nelson, Jr. (Stacy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
