He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Charles and Helen Elaine Thomas (Gleichauf); and his stepdaughter Whitney Rismon. He is survived by: his wife Susan Marie Newlin; his daughter Annie Peterson; and his stepsons, Jason Carrel (Diane) and Joshua Carrel (Bobbi). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren.
