He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Phillips and Frances Phillips (Conley); his wife Rosemary "Rosebud" Simonson; and his siblings, Annette Natz and Bill Phillips.

He is survived by: his son Alex McWilliams (Haven); his grandchildren, Oliver and Stella Rose McWilliams; and his sister Mary Finley (Jim). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
