He was predeceased by: his father Tanjore Splan; his brothers, Tanjore Splan and Ronald Splan; and his sons, Tanjore Splan, William Joseph Splan Jr. and Per.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Splan; his children, Ronald Splan (Joyce) of Beloit, WI, Carolyn Cohen (David) of West Bloomfield, MI, Michael Splan (Kelly Reed) of Kansas City, KS and John Splan of Belvidere, IL; and his brother Erland Splan of Waterford, MI. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
