He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Abel and Julie Van Abel (Karls); his brother Don Van Abel; his in-laws, Leonard and Verena Winkler; his sisters-in-law, Carol Winkler and Rosemary Barcelou; his niece Kathy Winkler; and his stepfather Marv Hooyman.
He is survived by: his spouse Carmen Winkler; his brothers, Dave Van Abel (Donna Morgan) and Bill Van Abel (Lynn) of Lino Lakes, MN; his siblings-in-law, Marlene Richart (Tom), Gary Winkler (Joan) and Dick Barcelou of Asheville, NC.; and his stepbrother Gary Hooyman (Kathy). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
