He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas A. and Rose C.; his wife Alice Skeans; his daughter Carla Hempel; his grandson Joshua Smith; his great grandchild Clayton Smith; his son-in-law George T. Paulus; and his siblings, Charles Fliess, Helen Tunkieicz, Rita Brown and Robert Fliess.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Marie Paulus, Thomas Fliess Jr. (Cherie), Nancy DiBiase, Richard Allen Fliess and Shirley Olson (Darren); his grandchildren, Rhianon Engelbrecht (Corey), Jacob Smith, Rachel Smith (David Eckert), Jennifer Alby (Aaron), Christopher Goetz (Chelsea), Samantha Lovrek (Michael), Nicholas, Thomas Hempel, Nicole Fliess, Alexandra Pias (Ben), Katherine Spencer (Travis), Sara Fliess, Christina Ortiz (Coty), Heather Geron (Chris), James DiBiase, Jamie Walker, Dylan Olson and Alyssa Olson; and his sister-in-law Elaine Fliess. He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
