She was predeceased by: her parents, Aloys Nisler and Leona Nisler (Meyers); her former husband Hermes Steffen; her husband William Mertens; and her siblings-in-law, Leander Steffen (Mary), Randy Steffen (Lavern), Genevieve Heimann (Alois), Willy Steffen, Kenneth Steffen (Rosemary), Allen Steffen (Sandy), Celestine Steffen and Arlyn Steffen (Luann).
She is survived by: her children, Amy Spielmann (Scott) and Nick Mertens (Angie); her grandchildren, Robbie Spielmann, Amaya and Nolan Mertens; her brother Tom Nisler; and her siblings-in-law, Eileen Walsdorf (David) and Peter (Judy).
