He was predeceased by: his wife Doris Mae; his grandson Gerald "Jerry" Matzdorf; his brothers, Clarence Ninmer (Arlene) and Raymond Ninmer; his siblings-in-law, Everett Henning (Jellane), Elvers Voigt (Milton), Leora Thomas (Herman) and Lorraine Boardman (Keith); and his parents-in-law, Otto and Norma Henning.
He is survived by: his children, Randy Ninmer (Carol), Wanda Matzdorf (Art) and Paula Mahloch (John); his grandchildren, Kevin Matzdorf (Sara), Lauren Ninmer-Nelson (Jared Nelson) and Adam Ninmer (Jackie); his granddaughter-in-law Angie Matzdorf; his great grandchild Alison Matzdorf; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Sawyer, Beau, Reid and Jack; his sister-in-law Helen Henning; and his friend Field of Dreams. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Merlin's name.
