He was predeceased by: his parents, Luella Keller (Anez) of Winona, Minnesota and Senator James R. Sr.; and his siblings, Senator Patricia Kronebusch, Carol Joyce of Winona, Minnesota and James R. Keller Jr. of Bloomington, Minnesota..
He is survived by: his daughter Natalie Smith (Tim) of Savage, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Taylor Smith of Savage and Jason Smith (Emilee Mason) of Shakopee, Minnesota; his sisters, Mary Krage of Winona and Anita Hamm of Anaconda, Montana; and his former wives, Sharon Elliasen and Marie Feidt. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
