He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter J. Nelson and Vernell Nelson (Finch); his son Chad W. Nelson; his brothers, Russell and Ronald; his brother-in-law Joe Zupanc; and his nephews, Bryan Nelson and Todd Rudoll.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley A. Goodbrand of Loyal; his children, Kim Nelson (Riley Ashbeck) of Spencer, WI, Melinda Nelson (Derek Krasselt) of Greenwood, WI, Caley Nelson of Loyal and Cal "Bubba" (Becky Von Loh) of Medford, WI; his grandchildren, Brent Decorah (Jennifer Trippler), Brittany Schwark, Trevor, Devin Witt, Kobe, Kadyn Delis, Landin Nelson, Zayden Carriveau, Cole Nelson and Colten Nelson (Cierra); his great grandchildren, Grace, Kelly Decorah, Greyson Bohanon, Brock, Braxton, Alessa and Ariella Nelson; and his siblings, Bonnie Roehl (Erlin) of Loyal, Carol Richter (Curt) of Naples, FL, John (Karen) of Loyal, Beverly Zupanc of Stratford, Dennis (Chris) of Loyal, Randy of Loyal, Rosemary Rudoll (Jim) of Winter, WI, Jack (Tracy) of Greenwood, Dallas (Jeanine) of Dexterville, WI, Nila Potter of Springstead, WI and Ricky of Loyal. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 14th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Loyal American Legion (302 N Union St, Loyal, WI 54446). The military honors will be held on Saturday, November 14th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
