He was predeceased by: his parents, Axel J. Helm and Frances M. Helm (Bauer); his wife Delores R. Pieper; his children, Randy and Sharon Fidler; and his siblings, Marie, Angeline Helm, Florence Christensen, Delores Adair, Herbert, Arthur and Richard Helm.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sandra Sommers (Jeff) of Jonesborough, TN and Shelly Stein (Dennis) of Appleton; his grandchildren, Craig Sommers (Kelly), Chris Sommers (Kelli), Kelsey Kienert (Adam) and Matthew Stein; his great grandchildren, Malakai Sommers, Carey Sommers, Caley Sommers and Lyla Kienert; and his close friend Darlene Lucht. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
