He was predeceased by: his parents, Irving Aaronson and Freda Greenbaum Aaronson; and his former wife Judy Neal. He is survived by: his wife Jane; his children, David Aaronson, Mia, Carmen and Joe Aaronson (Roxy); his grandchildren, Aaliyah and Dalilah; his stepson Garth Langhammer (Tamie); his stepgrandchildren, Evin and Triese; his stepson Gavin Langhammer; his stepgrandchildren, Jude, Charlie and Noah; Lorna Aaronson and Jim Klancer.

I lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, or Planned Parenthood.
