He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Backus and Gertrude Backus (Hoyer); his brothers, Bill Backus, Tony Backus and Lee Backus; his parents-in-law, Kenneth Bessert Sr. and Peggy Bessert; his siblings-in-law, Lindy Backus, Robert Krcma, Debra Mrozinsky and Kenneth Bessert Jr.; and his nephews, Bob Backus and Kenneth Bessert III.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Taylor Kralovetz (Brandon), Megan Meyer (Matt), Isabella Mattie (Tanner Peterik), Christian Monday, Raegan Jansen, Owen Jansen, Elizabeth Backus, Paige Backus, Zoie Skarvan, Alana Skarvan, Colton Thorison, Charlie Drossart, Reese Drossart and Michael Drossart; his siblings, Don Backus (Mary Jane), Tom Backus, Chuck Backus (Barb), Dick Backus, Diane Wagner (Jerry), Cheryl Terp (Todd) and Carol Christiansen (Kelly); his siblings-in-law, Nell Backus, Lori Backus, Mary Schultz (Douglas), Sue Krcma, Kathy Dodge (John), Cindy Elfner, Randy Mrozinsky, Doreen Bessert and Linda Backus; and also, Judy Backus, Christine Monday (Robert), Nancy Jansen (Michael), Howard, Adam Backus (Jessica), Jean Drossart (Kevin) and Kay Lynn Backus. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (8100 Brunner Rd, Newton, WI 53063). A funeral service was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
