He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathias Gassen and Virginia Gassen of Neillsville, Wisconsin.; his sister Valerie Dahlke; and his nephew Jacob Gassen. He is survived by: his wife Hideko Neha Gassen; his brother Greg Gassen (Barb) of New Lisbon, Wisconsin; his children, Mayumi Aaberg (Nathan) of Galena, Illinois, Angela Gassen (Skot Swingle) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Mathias James Gassen VI (Christie) of O'Fallon, Illinois; his grandchildren, Alden, Owen, Mathias and Adria; and his nieces and nephews, Chris, Dawn, Christopher and Jesse.
Visitation was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gesche Funeral Home & Cremation Service (4 S Grand Ave, Neillsville, WI 54456). A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the same location. The military honors was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A reception was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the American Legion Hall (6 Boon Blvd, Neillsville, WI 54456).
