He was predeceased by: his parents, John Kersten and Dorathea Kersten (Kemps); his daughter Kathleen Kersten; his siblings, Howard Kersten and Mildren Gilson (John); and his sons-in-law, Larry Rice and Henry Pagel.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Lowe; and his children, Kris Pagel, Keith, Karen Immel (Randis), Pat Rice (Rodney Fischer), Tom, Marvin, Robert (Theresa) and Curt Kersten (Cindy). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.
