Jack T. Schmitz Obituary

Jack Thomas Schmitz, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jack grew up as the fourth of seven children in a close-knit household with four brothers and two sisters. Known for his natural integrity and easygoing spirit, Jack was a quiet, loyal, and unselfish man who dedicated his life to his country and the people he loved most. A proud veteran, Jack honorably served his country in the military from 1959 to 1962. Following his service, he went on to build a respected, lifelong career as an architectural hardware consultant. He was prolific in starting a contract hardware division with several companies in the Milwaukee area. Jack's greatest pride was his family. He was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, Diane, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. An exceptional family man, Jack thoroughly enjoyed his retirement by giving back through volunteering, spending time out on the golf course, and traveling with his family to his two favorite spots: Door County and Fort Myers. Whether he was spending a day out on the golf course, watching sunsets, or sharing laughs during "board meetings" at family reunions, Jack brought a steady, gentle, and unselfish presence to his family, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Grace and two of his siblings Sonny (Joyce) and Donald. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his daughters, Deborah (Bill) and Jen (Stephanie); his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Dan (Ashley), Tony (Rachael), Addie (Reed), and Aiden; and his adored great-grandchildren, Andrew, Sophia, Lorelei, and Sylas. He is also survived by his dear remaining brothers, sisters, and sister-in-law, Pat (Chuck), Bill (Carol), Kathy (Don), Jim (Marla), and Nancy, as well as multiple nieces and nephews, with whom he shared countless memories.

The visitation for Jack will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 11AM until the time of the memorial service with Military Honors at 1PM.

His kindness and sense of humor will live on in the hearts of his family forever.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.' — Erma Bombeck.
