Denise Renee (Cassioppi) Schmitt Obituary
Denise passed away peacefully at Horizon's Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon on October 3, 2025, at the age of 72. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Schmitt. Dear sister of Mark (Rosann) Cassioppi, dear sister-in-law of Mary Ellen (Greg) Smith, Jerry Schmitt and John (Vicki) Schmitt. Much loved aunt of Gina Barr, Julia Smith (Curt Wilke), Beth Smith (Sandra Malott), Kate (Joe) Curatola, Carolyn (Taylor) Smith-Hughes, and Maggie Schmitt, and great aunt of Logan and Riley Barr, Gregory Curatola, and August Smith-Hughes. Also survived by other caring relatives, many dear friends, fellow artists, and colleagues. Denise was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucy Cassioppi, in-laws Bud and Dorothy Schmitt, and sister-in-law Lynn Schmitt.
Denise will be remembered for her generosity, creativity in the visual and fiber arts, and her distinct laugh. Her family would like to recognize her caregivers from Cornerstone Caregiving, whose excellent care allowed her to remain at home with her sweet and cuddly cat Violet until just before she died. The family would especially like to thank her caregivers Monique and Rashida, whose kindness and steady natures helped see Denise (and family members too) through a number of difficult days and nights.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, from 10 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel, 7301 W Nash St, Milwaukee.
