Kay L. Reetz Obituary

Nee Lyon) of Mequon. Passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the age of 79 years. Beloved wife for 59 years of Roger Reetz. Dear mother of Jon (Lisa), Patrick (Angie) and the late Pamela Reetz. Proud grandmother of Eileen, Evan, Jason, Megan and the late Joshua. Survived by her sister Sue (Tim) Slowey. Preceded in death by her parents Fred and Leila Lyon, three sisters (Barb, Char and Jeanne) and one brother (Tom). Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kay was a 4th of July baby in 1943, born at home in Westfield, Wisconsin, the third of six children. She spent her entire childhood on the farm where the Lyon family developed an excellent reputation for raising and selling prize-winning dairy cattle. Kay was active in 4-H, including showing cattle at the Marquette County Fair and was crowned Dairy Queen. She attended Westfield High School where she was a skilled clarinet player and met Roger. She utilized her seamstress skills to make a wool suit to compete in the Wisconsin "Make Yourself with Wool" contest. She won first place in the junior category and also competed at the national show in San Antonio, Texas.

She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and married Roger on November 9, 1963. The couple made their new home in Janesville, Wisconsin where Kay raised her two boys and was active in local organizations including youth baseball and hockey, St. Mark's Lutheran church functions and Sunday school, and the Junior Women's Club. She continued utilizing her sewing skills and upholstered furniture for friends and family. In 1987, they moved to Mequon, Wisconsin where she again became active in church, often volunteering to put her cooking and organizational skills to use at Beautiful Savior Lutheran. The congregation has served as a second family to the couple for over twenty years.

In her later years, Kay made potting flowers an art form. She and Roger dedicated countless hours caring for the flowers and shrubs at both Beautiful Savior and in their own backyard. She was a passionate sports fan, always happy and quick to offer her strong personal opinions on Badgers football and basketball as well as Brewers baseball.

Friends may greet the family on Monday, April 17 from 4:00 PM to the time of funeral services at 6:00 PM at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church; 11313 North Riverland Road in Mequon. Private interment. Memorials to the church would be deeply appreciated in lieu of flowers.
