He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thiel and Judine Thiel (Kroll); his stepfather Bruce Schield; and his nephew Mitchell Fruend. He is survived by: his siblings, John Thiel Jr. of Merrill, Kristen Schefdore (John) of Merrill and Sarah Thomas (Matt) of Chanhassen, MN; his stepmother Deborah Thiel of Florida; and his siblings' children, Kate Heuer (John) of Merrill, Brian Fruend of Merrill, Terra Holdridge (Nick) of Merrill, Jason Thiel (Ashley) of Merrill, Jesse Thiel of Merrill, Caryn Thiel of Merrill, ShyAnne Thiel of Antigo, Ben Thomas of Plymouth, MN, Madison Thomas of Grand Forks, ND, Nate Thomas of Chanhassen, MN and Owen Thomas of Chanhassen, MN.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Stephens United Church of Christ (903 E 2nd St, Merrill, WI 54452). A Mass was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (1708 E 10th St, Merrill, WI 54452).
The family wishes to thank Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services and the Aspirus Hospice House and Foundation for the gentle loving care they provided to Michael in his last weeks.
