He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hartson and Pearl Hartson (Burns); his in-laws, Lester and Helen Schmidt; his siblings, Doris Gustin (Rudy), Gladys Gustin (Willie), Mildred Hochstetler, Lucille Hartson, Charlene Meyer (Ray) and James Hartson (Dorothy); and his brother-in-law William'Bill'Zortman.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Hartson of Merrill; his son Robert'Rob'J. Hartson of Merrill; his grandchildren, Robert'R. T.' Hartson (Maria) of Merrill and Ellie Hartson (Jacob Krueger) of Virginia Beach, VA; his great grandchildren, Robert G.'Bo', Colter and Lainey; his sister Evelyn Chrusniak (Ben 'Butch') of Mosinee; and his sister-in-law Nona Zortman of Merrill. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Waid Funeral Home (301 Eagle Dr, Merrill, WI 54452). A memorial service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name may be made St. Stephens United Church of Christ or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
