He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha Smith and Samuel Hicks; and his son Samuel. He is survived by: his wife Jean; his son Benjamin (Sally); his stepdaughter Julie Vega (Roland); and his siblings, Judy Hale and Bradley Hicks (Jane). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
He loved to fly fish, tie his own flies, golf with his buddies in Virginia Beach and, during the pandemic, became quite a creative artist.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in David's name to Agrace HospiceCare or the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
