He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha Smith and Samuel Hicks; and his son Samuel. He is survived by: his wife Jean; his son Benjamin (Sally); his stepdaughter Julie Vega (Roland); and his siblings, Judy Hale and Bradley Hicks (Jane). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gunderson West Funeral & Cremation Care (7435 University Ave, Middleton, WI 53562). The military honors was held on Friday, November 7th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (N2665 County Rd QQ, Waupaca, WI 54946). He loved to fly fish, tie his own flies, golf with his buddies in Virginia Beach and, during the pandemic, became quite a creative artist.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in David's name to Agrace HospiceCare or the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
