He was predeceased by: his father Hugh Birdsall; and his sisters, Beverly LuMaye (Isadore) and Frances Bolwerk (Joseph). He is survived by: his sisters, Doreen Pease (Jack) of Portage, Mary Malvitz (Fred), Theresa Kinnard (Roger) of Sturgeon Bay and Judith Retzer (William) of Manitowoc. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, as well as his Brothers and Sisters.
In 1978, Fr. Hugh immersed himself in a year-long clergy-led program at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas, learning the dynamics of pastoral counseling and working towards getting his certification as a professional counselor.
