He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin J. Braun and Irene Braun; his wife Anne; his sister Judith Gear (James); and his siblings-in-law, Colleen Barry (C. Dan Barry), Mary Wamser and Dan Corcoran.

He is survived by: his children, James Jr. (Cindy), Rick, Jeff (Tammy), Randy (Maurine) and Julie; his sisters, Bonnie Ziegenhagen (Thomas) and Ruth Falkner (Mike); his in-laws, Mike Corcoran (Sue), Greg Corcoran (Aggie), Sally Fritz (Bill) and Nancy Corcoran; his grandchildren, Nicci Masters (Charles), Andy Braun (Nicole), James III Braun (Sammie), Sara Zeitler (Kevin), Emily Majewski (Tyler) and Zach Braun; and his friend Jeff Nehlsen. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
