Joan M. Steffes Obituary

We announce the death of Joan M. Steffes (Mount Calvary, Wisconsin), who passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 91. Joan will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Herman Buechel, and Ludvina Buechel, Sr. (Freund); her grandmother Elizabeth Freund; her great-grandparent Theresia Leitner; her husband Don; her stepmother Lucille Tetzke Buechel; her siblings, Marilyn Schneider (Roger), Herman Buechel Jr., Betty Stephanie (Lester), Teresa Steffen (Jack) and Allen Buechel; her parents-in-law, Leo and Katherine Steffes; her siblings-in-law, Donald Abler, Dolores Petrie (Elmer), Henry Birschbach, Ed Zingsheim, Eugene Steffes (Donna), Sylvin Steffes, Mary Ann Birschbach (Eugene) and Vern Steffes; and her friend Gene Burg.

She is survived by: her children, Nancy Preder (Brian) of St. Cloud and Bob Steffes (Diana) of Wauwatosa; her grandchildren, Samantha Turley (Neil), Chaislyn Kretlow (Nate), Gabriel Preder, Fiona Steffes and Jasmine Steffes; her great grandchildren, William, Nikolai Turley and Carver Kretlow; her sisters, Diana Abler and Joyce VerHaagh (Ron); her siblings-in-law, Janet Buechel, Betty Buechel, Pat Birschbach, Judy Zignsheim, Joe Steffes (Raye Marie) and Gail Steffes; and her stepbrother Dave Tetzke (Karen). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Our Lady of the Holyland Catholic Parish-Holy Cross (308 S. County Road W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
