Donald Ray Vachon Obituary

Donald Ray Vachon, age 85 of Mukwonago was called home by his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with vascular dementia in the early morning of Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Elizabeth Residence Assisted Living Community in New Berlin, WI.

Don was born in Norway, MI along with his twin brother on July 31, 1937 to the late Jeffrey and Rhea Vachon.

Along with his family, Don moved to Milwaukee in 1954. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the US Army as Military Police from 1961-1963, stationed in Italy. He joined the Milwaukee Police Department in 1965 and continued his education receiving an Associate degree in Police Science from Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Milton College. After retiring from the force in 1992, Don worked in security at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. He was a member of the American Legion-Milwaukee Police Post 415. Don stayed in frequent contact with many of his follow officers who he considered lifelong friends with phone calls, Saturday morning breakfasts and annual gatherings.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Jeffrey and Rhea Vachon, brothers Ronald (Charlotte) Vachon, Phillip Vachon, sister Rita (Robert) Frehse, nieces Debra (Arthur) Mullins, Denise Frehse and brother-in-law Jerome Boehnlein.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Myra Vachon, son Scott Vachon, daughters Shelly (Thomas "Jake") Jackson and Dawna Vachon, grandson Joseph Jackson (Lauren Schlicht), sister Yvonne Boehnlein, sister-in-law Barbara Vachon, uncle Sydney Miller and aunt Frances Cooper, special friends Dale Laine and Richard (Donna) Massie and nieces, nephew, cousins, friends, and furry friends, too.

Don was dedicated to his family and his grandson Joe was the center of his world.

Family and friends will remember Don for his sense of humor, jokes, love for buffets, enjoyment of a good game of blackjack, infectious smile, and a cold bottle of PBR; but most of all as a nice guy and a good man.

Special thanks to the caregivers at Elizabeth Residence and Badger Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Their support to Don and his family was stellar.
