She was predeceased by: her parents, Ike Steinbach and Jean Steinbach (McCrum); and her brother-in-law Joe Helmuth. She is survived by: her husband Jim Whitney; her children, Heidi Vicente, Casey Clark (Rachel), Heather Mpemwangi (Pierrot) and Jason Whitney (Mike); her grandchildren, Xavier Vincente, Avery Vicente (Cassie), Olivia Mpemwangi and Mia Mpemwangi; her great grandchild Azaria Vincente; her siblings, Sandy Steinbach, Sharon Steinbach, Suzy Zielonka (John), Shelly Hale, Sonia Lewis, Les Smith (Lisa) and Deann David; and her siblings-in-law, Tom Whitney (Lori), Karlene Helmuth and Sandy Getzloff (Wayne). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sarah's name to Dementia Society of America.
