With sadness, we share the passing of Darlene G. Schmitz (Norwalk, Wisconsin). Darlene, born on September 14, 1941, passed away on September 29, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Vernon Kast and Margaret Kast (Steidl); her husband Eugene "Mike" Schmitz; her son Christopher Michael Schmitz; her brother James Kast; her in-laws, Hubert and Loretta Schmitz; and her siblings-in-law, Gallis "Butch" Schmitz, Mary Schmitz, Helen "Jenny" Muehlenkamp (Glen), James Dunnum, Donald Wavra, James Schmitz (Mary) and Geraldine "Toots" Gilbeck.
She is survived by: her children, Marabeth Leum (Marty), Shelly Von Ruden (Willie Dewitt), Jill Lindner (Dave) and Jackie Gerl (Brent); her grandchildren, Marty Leum (Kayla), Casey Austin, Jason Revels (Emily), Kristen Von Ruden, Joshua Lindner (Aeriana), Tyler Lindner (Lane) and Brynn Gerl; her great grandchildren, London, Lox, Evan, Tate, Raylea, Maverick, Brylee, Harper, Ainsley, Rollie and Lettie; her siblings, Donald Kast (Kay), Patricia "Patsy" Berendes (Lamont), Marcia Pfaff (James), William "Bill" Kast (Carol) and Dale Kast (Debbie); and her siblings-in-law, Betty Schmitz, Cletus "Pete" Schmitz, Joyce Dunnum, Caroline Wavra, Melissa Schmitz and Robert Gilbeck (Jane). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church (26400 Co Hwy U, Cashton, WI 54619). Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery (26400 Co Hwy U, Cashton, WI 54619). A Mass will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 12:15 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sparta Area Cancer Support (SACS) in memory of Darlene.
