Hazel Patricia Herro Obituary
H. Patricia Herro was born to Pauline Hynes Snyder and K.I. Snyder in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 11, 1927. She ascended to a higher plane on March 23, 2026.
Pat had an itinerant childhood, moving states nearly annually until her family landed in Oconomowoc in 1941. She made lifelong friends in high school, and was a charter member of the High Fliers. Pat was an accomplished thespian, enjoying top billing at both OHS and Carroll College, where she was a two-time Hinky Honey. She majored in Social Work; her career as a social worker for Waukesha County was cut short by the birth of nine children, after her marriage to Chuck.
Pat was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution who married the son of two Arab immigrants, exemplifying this country's greatness as the melting pot of the world.
Over the last decades, Pat and her spouse struggled to understand the ever-wilder drift and motivation of her former conservative community. Her final years were spent as a supporter of Common Cause, the ACLU, Public Citizen Foundation, and the best of the still-fact-based press, particularly PBS.
She was a force to be reckoned with. Earlier this year, she got Wordle in one.
Pat was predeceased by her spouse Charles; son Thomas; brothers Peter, John (Jack), Karl (Mike), and Harry (Spike); sisters-in-law Joan and Janet; and other relatives. She is survived by children Katherine (Paul Filipowicz), Joseph, Mark (Danielle), Susan, Michael (Kim), Janet (Terry Kaldhusdal), Margaret, and Kenneth (Margaret Snyder); sixteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Rose Mary and Barbara; numerous nieces and nephews; and the last of the High Fliers, Sister Kathryn (Bobo) Shannon.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home 121 S. Cross St. Oconomowoc from 10am until time of service at 12pm (noon).
In lieu of flowers, donations to progressive, environmental, or inclusive charities are appreciated.
