He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd F. Nelson and Ethel Nelson (Gustafson); his wife Mary Lou; his granddaughter Jessica Wang; and his siblings, Ivan and Beatrice.
He is survived by: his daughters, Diane Nelson, Rebecca Welter (Joe), Laurie Karns (Rich), Cynthia Nelson and Christine Davis (Jerry); his grandchildren, Tony Wang (Lauren), Emily Wang, Angela Caploe (Granger), Makayla Karns, Michael Karns, Marcus Karns and Jaylen Davis; and his stepgrandchildren, Brandy Welter, Chrystal Kirk, Jacob Welter and Jason Ruskell. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Free Methodist Church (350 E Furnace St, Platteville, WI 53818). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
Dwight was a man of faith and humility, therefore in lieu of flowers, chimes and memorial stones, memorials may be made to Gideon's International in Dwight's name.
