He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Vanderkin and Alice Vanderkin (Stienke); his wife Edith Matzdorf (Matzdorf) of John's Lutheran Church; his siblings, Ruth Jean (Arno Shaske), Bernice Melius (John) and Earl Vanderkin; his siblings-in-law, Tom Fuller, John Melius, Arno Shaske, Oliver Hinz, Gladys Boeselager (Omar) and Loretta Eberhardt (Warren); his stepmother Gladys Vanderkin; and his parents-in-law, Viola and Otto Matzdorf.

He is survived by: his children, Bonnie Vanderkin Bertram (Randy) and David Vanderkin (Mary); his grandchildren, Matt Bertram (Trish McCann Bertram), Kristin Bertram (Rob Roskin), Ryan Vanderkin and Tricia Vanderkin Brown (Chris Brown); his great grandchildren, Olive, Elodee, Maya, Juniper Vanderkin and Grayson Bertram; and his sisters, Beverly Hinz and Carole Fuller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert's name may be made to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Down Syndrome Association of Sheboygan County.
