He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Schmit and Rose Schmit; his wife Marilyn Reif of Mary's Catholic Church; and his brother Richard Schmit (late Sue). He is survived by: his children, Debbie Murphy (Dave), Linda Mobraten (Chuck) of Denver, CO, Jeff Schmit (Jane) of Tampa, FL and Mike Schmit (Kim) of Belgium; and his sister Suzanne Richard (late Robert). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
