He was predeceased by: his siblings, Steve Schnell and Wendy McCulloch (Schnell); his brother-in-law Kurt McCulloch; his parents, Donald Schnell and Janet Keller (Breitrick Schnell); and his stepfather Lester Keller.

He is survived by: his wife Diane Schnell (Johnston); his daughters, Cierra Schnell, Breanna Schnell and Ashlyn Ballestad (Schnell); his son-in-law Eric Ballestad; his parents-in-law, Beverly and Everette Johnston; his siblings, Connie Westlake (Steve), Mark Schnell (Linda) and Dave Schnell (Sue); and his siblings-in-law, Kay Schnell and Daniel Johnston (Joanne).

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
