He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius and Mabel; his son Richard; his siblings, Joan Fox (Lawrence), Robert Rooney, Kathleen Nielsen (John), Elizabeth Petersen (Harold), Richard Rooney (Avis) and John Rooney (Inez); and his parents-in-law, Herman and Frieda.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Schulz; his friends, Jim and Commodore; his children, Erin Rooney Phillips (Danny Phillips), James C. Rooney (Theresa) and John C. Rooney (Margret); his daughter-in-law Erika Rooney; and his grandchildren, Jonathon, Ryan, Sarah, Andrew, Matthew, Connell, Katelyn and Colleen.

Memorials to the Racine Yacht Club Youth Foundation have been suggested.
