She was predeceased by: her grandparents, Sam and Mattie Arthur; her parents, James Marshall and Josephine Marshall; her husband Cornell Stokes Sr.; her siblings, James Arthur and Dora Mullins; her aunts and uncles, Amanda Marshall, Orlean Arthur, Mary Ballard, Sally Shivers, Virginia Webster, Ezekiel Arthur and Elijah Arthur; her nieces, Patricia Walker, Ranisha Mullins-Ward and Edwina Mullins; her nephew Ed Mullins; and her brothers-in-law, Ed Mullins and Willie Avant.

She is survived by: her children, Virginia Marshall-Weaver and Melvin Arthur Sr.; her stepchildren, Sheila Stokes, Delina Reed (Johnny), Sharon Stokes and Cornell Stokes Jr.; her siblings, Regina Avant, Timothy Marshall and Patterson Marshall; her grandsons, Andre Clark and Melvin Arthur Jr.; her great grandchildren, Ja'Varria, Arthur, Antonio Ramariz, Nevari Fralin, Prince Arthur, Ka'Leeah Clark, Namya Clark and Kaecii Arthur; her godson Marques Marshall; and her close friends, Mary Jeffries, Courtney, Virginia Jackson, Burnette Horton, Emmitt and Winnie McGhee. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends.
