He was predeceased by: his wife Laura Lee Townsend (Flora); his parents, Emma Woods Townsend and Fred Townsend; his son Darnell Brumby; and his brother Lealon Townsend.
He is survived by: his children, Cherel Hyatt (Frederick) of Racine Wi, Alisa Cameron (Pastor Randy) of Racine Wi, Tony Jones of Racine Wi and Douglas Fitzpatrick (Annie) of Belden, MS; his sisters, Edith Gardner of Houlka, MS, Lady D Townsend of Racine Wi, Juanita Flanagan (Thomas) of Racine Wi, Erie Oakley of Racine Wi and Linda Faye Gipson of Lawton, OK.; and his close friends, Africatera Riley and Reggie Bell. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.
