He was predeceased by: his parents, George Smedema and Mary Smedema (DenDekker); his wife Betty; his siblings, Bernie Guess (Dan) and Toby Smedema (Ann); and his brothers-in-law, Lee Jansma, Ken Koorndyk and Rev. Archie Bazuin.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Christian (Jeff) of Randolph, Cynthia Ruiter (Larry) of Randolph, Mary Katsma (David) of Cambria, Melinda Kemink (Bradley) of Cambria and Darren Smedema (Melissa); his grandchildren, Brooke, Rachel Christian, Lynn Green (Dave), Lori Cuppiciotti (Scott), Kurt, Patty Ruiter, Lauren Tillema (Kevin), Janelle Kartechner (Mike), Vanessa Fischer (Tyler), Melissa Bresser (Nate), Brett Kemink (Jessica), Megan Wendlandt (Jordon), Jack, Brayden and Nolan Smedema; his sister Babe Koorndyk; and his sisters-in-law, Nancy Jansma and Ellie Bazuin. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
