He was predeceased by : his parents, Calvin Douglas Earnest and Lois Elaine Earnest (Nelson); his grandparents, Frank, Lydia Earnest (Bigelow), John and Vashti Nelson (Shimmins); his in-laws, Elwin and Berthal Long (Holmes); and his brothers-in-law, Thomas and Philip Long.

He is survived by : his wife Sandra Earnest (Long); his son Shawn Klug grandson Nick Klug; his daughter Shawn M. Connors; and his grandsons, Brady and Dylan Connors.
