He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Burkel and Bernice Burkel (Rabiedeau); his wife Deloris Payne; his son Gale Burkel; and his siblings, Lawrence Burkel (Pearl), Louis Burkel, Elizabeth Henson (Richard) and Lois Dokstader.
He is survived by: his daughters, Alice Burkel and Cheryl Burkel; his grandson Kenneth Mosier; and his nieces and nephews, Robert, Victoria, Richard and Donna.
