He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugo Winkel and Viola Winkel (Rautmann); his daughter Martha; and his sisters, Elaine, Grace and June.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Leon; his son Frederick Winkel (Suzann); his grandchildren, Samantha DeVriend (Ryan), Nicholas Schneider and Kierstan Winkel (Justin Sangermano); his daughter Felicia Thiel (Randy); his grandson Dominic Geiger (Heather); his stepgrandchildren, Zach Thiel (Aimee) and Mariah Dowty (Thomas); his niece Donna McWilliams (Terry); his great grandchildren, Adalyn, Hayden, Nova, Rory, Jaxson, Emmett, Blake, Henry, Paetyn, Colten, Farrah, Benton and Booker; and his sister Shirley Kaminski. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
