He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Messler and Catherine Messler; his wife Dolores J. "Lory" Messler; his sons-in-law, Thomas Griepentrog and William McCluskey; and his siblings, Anton, Louis, Anna and Katherine.
He is survived by: his children, Darlene Griepentrog, John L. Messler, Carol Gunther (Kim) and Mary McCluskey; his grandchildren, Tim Griepentrog, Jason Griepentrog (Katie), Kate Labinski (Dean), Jackie Messler Barber (Dan Barber), Amy Cotton, Andrew Gunther (Krista) and Laura Rindfleisch (Dan); and his great grandchildren, Morgan, Allyson Griepentrog, Kylie, Kaleb Ressman, Finley, Emilia Barber, Logan, Adeline Cotton, Ava, Noah Rindfleisch, Enzo, Max and Bryce Gunther. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 17th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr, West Bend, WI 53095). A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 17th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
